Sports

While many subjects at school are taught primarily in the classroom, sports and physical education provide a great opportunity for children to head outside, get active, and focus on developing different skills. The benefits of sports in education are vast and we, at USGS and PPSIJC believe that sports should be given equal importance as academics as it instils qualities such as team work, perseverance, sportsmanship, discipline and patience among many others.

We are one of the few schools in Mumbai that can boast of having its own playground to conduct Sports events and proudly proclaim that champions in diverse sports have evolved on this very home ground which at the moment is in fact getting a facelift and will soon be on par with international standards. It will allow multiple sports activities and include a synthetic court and artificial turf. Our facilities and systems enable our athletes to compete in the international sporting arena and provide impetus to them to actively take up sports and build a sports culture.

Our passion for sports is evident in the fact that we are the first school in the world whose CEO has been honored with the Honorary Black Belt in Goju-Ryu Karate.  We are the only school to offer in-house sports coaches for each different sports with no extra fee, with an add-on specialized training on the weekends.

Nine coaches, each specializing in a specific sport train our aspiring sportsmen and women in Athletics, Gymnastics, Cricket, Dodge ball, Football, Handball, Throw ball, Martial Arts, Skating and Table Tennis. We also support and encourage Judo, Fencing, Badminton, Lawn tennis, Chess, Golf and Swimming and many of our students have secured laurels at these sports and done us proud!

Sports has been an integral part of our curriculum since our inception in 1982 and is integrated into our Time Table. Our coaches regularly conduct weekend and beyond school classes, summer camps, winter camps, organize talks for our budding athletes by inviting physiotherapists, dieticians, Psychologists, etc. to address all our students’ needs. This prepares them mentally, emotionally as well as physically to become all- rounders and goes beyond building physical stamina to instil qualities such as determination, willpower, discipline, and team spirit and also fosters a healthy body and mind. Students are also taken for competitions regularly and no extra charges are levied upon them for the travel or entry to these events. Flavoured milk and nutritious refreshments are given to all athletes at no extra cost.  It is no surprise then that we churn out winners at district, state, national and international level competitions and these have all contributed toward our upward spiralling sports achievement graph.

Grandeur marks our Sports Week which concludes, every year, on 26th January, India’s Republic Day. Dignitaries escorted by the Student Council members, preside over the function. This day is a culmination of a week-long heats, elimination and final round in varied track and field events.  Just as the country honours its veterans, JPES honours all its Sports achievers on this day in a Prize distribution ceremony like no other!
