To most, dance is a form of expression and art. However, what most people do not know is that it also connects people, emotions and ideas. It acts as a social tool which helps lift spirits, raise energy levels, and maintain mental health. As self-isolation is becoming our way of life, dance comes to our rescue as it is the universal language that allows children to express themselves and infuses joy in them during these difficult and uncertain times.
With this in mind, we had planned the IHC CREATIVE EXPRESSION. This year the theme was “DanceFlix- a story through dance”. The pandemic has been challenging for each one of us, nevertheless, the will and zest to not give up has kept our USGSites moving towards their goal.
At some point in our journey of life, we all have a voice that seeks attention and a story that craves narration. Not letting go of this opportunity, our young dancers decided to express a story through dance. Paving their way through ferocious moves, impactful expressions and grace, our young talented dancers entered the final round of DanceFlix. Each participant was given a maximum of 5 minutes to present their act. Each performance was a personal narration of their own. They submitted a storyline of their performance, edited their soundtrack, and designed their own costumes and backdrops.
The event was a success with a vibrant judging panel including famous dance personalities like Mr. Suhrad Soni (Founder of the Soni School of Garba Dance), Ms. Mitali Vasant (founder of One Stop Dance Company) and Ms Sneha Dedhia (Secondary Faculty at USGS). Although the event was conducted over an online platform-zoom video conferencing, the audience left no stone unturned to express their support and encouragement to the participants who dodged and defeated technical snags and delivered their peppy performances. They used the chat box feature and emoticons to appreciate and applaud their performances, making the competition a great hit.
